"Captain America" - Enter 'Golden Girl'

In a world of forgotten crime-fighting superheroes, Marvel Comics' 'Elizabeth "Betsy" Ross' debuted in 'Captain America Comics" #1 (March 1941) as a love interest for 'Steve Rogers', aka 'Captain America', eventually succeeding 'Bucky' as Cap's crime-fighting sidekick in the story "Golden Girl" (1947):

A third Captain America, 'Jeffrey Mace', who succeeded an 'M.I.A.' Steve Rogers and the killed-in-action 'William Naslund' aka the 'Spirit of '76'...

...revealed his civilian identity to Ross and gave her a bulletproof cape previously owned by Naslund, training her as his new partner.

For Ross' first mission as Golden Girl, she and Captain America investigating strange seismic activity, led them to encounter 'Mr. Zrr' from 'Dimension Zee'...

...and assisted him in capturing 'Denton Smith' and 'Cecil Babylon', two criminals who found sanctuary in that dimension.

After many more adventures, culminating in a battle with the 'Red Skull' in 'Hell', Ross and Mace married in 1953 and retired from their superhero duties.

Betsy was later revealed as the aunt of 'General Thunderbolt Ross', and the great-aunt of his daughter 'Betty Ross', two characters introduced in "The Incredible Hulk" #1 (May 1962).
